|From Iriomote||From Yubujima|
Yubu Island has a circumference of 2.15 kilometers. It is a small island with an elevation of 1.5 meters above sea level. The entire island comprises a subtropical garden, and it is easy to make the leisurely passage over the shoals to Yubu Island from Iriomote Island on the opposite shore in a swaying water buffalo-drawn cart. Inside the garden, there are about 30 varieties of the popular hibiscus.
Including such flowering trees as the 10 varieties of palm tree peculiar to the subtropics, Calliandra haematocephala and Adenium obesum, as well as such fruit trees as guava and papaya, there are more than 100 varieties of trees! You can enjoy a wide variety of plants all year long.
And don't forget the animals like goats and Ryukyu boar. The restaurant, offering Okinawa cuisine and tropical fruit juice, has a souvenir shop selling original products and Ryukyu Islands goods. I
n addition, visitors will find viewing facilities including a butterfly garden, a shell house and a Bougainvillea garden, as well as the east-side beach, which affords a superb view of the surrounding islands. If you have time, be sure to take a stroll around the garden.
